CHEF TONY SINGH MBE IS VISITING INVERNESS TO CELEBRATE HIGHLAND FOOD AND DRINK FOR MAGGIES

Chef Tony Singh MBE is spending a weekend (Friday 19th – Saturday 20th May) in the capital of the Highlands to bring people together over a shared love of food and drink, whilst raising awareness and fundraising for Maggies Highlands. On Friday 19th of May Tony will take over the Highland Food and Drink Trail pop-up unit in the recently refurbished Victorian Market food hall and will be serving up his Signature Dish, a fusion of delicious Indian and Highland Ingredients, we will be on hand to pair our subtly smoky single malt with Tony’s amazing food.

Cù Bòcan appeals to experimental spirits, those who are interested in seeking out the unusual and are first in line for a new experience. This will be our third time collaborating with Tony (read about our last collaboration here!) but this time it’s for a greater cause, as all proceeds over the weekend will be going directly to Maggies Highlands.

Cù Bòcan, produced at Tomatin Distillery, will be serving drams, whisky cocktails and non-alcoholic mocktails to celebrate the weekend, guests can purchase alcohol from “Moonshine” a wine, beer and spirits shop in the Victorian Market. Tony will be serving food from around 12.00 until the his dish runs out so don't hang around and get in early!

On Saturday the 20th of May Tony is venturing to the Black Isle Brewery Bar, known for only serving the best local organic food and drink. Tony will create his own pizza with all proceeds once again going to Maggies Highlands. Cù Bòcan, will once again be on hand to quench thirsts with drams and whisky cocktails. Be sure to head to the Black Isle Bar from around 2pm – 6pm to catch Tony in action and donate to a worthy cause. Tony explains, “These events are about hospitality, so it’s bringing people in and sharing over food and drink, wherever you are in the world, people can relate to food and drink. It’s for a serious cause but you can have fun doing it.”

Maggie’s Highlands relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to cover the £500,000 annual running costs – the money will help support the Maggie’s Highlands Children’s Support Group as well as more than 450 people with cancer supported by the charity on a weekly basis. Maggie’s offers emotional and psychological help and provides help with cost-of-living needs that people with cancer face and enable them to access the benefits they need. Maggie’s supports not just those with cancer but friends and family members including children through their Children’s Support Groups.

UPDATE

We were delighted to collaborate with Tony once again, his lively personality and skill in designing exciting and delicious dishes pairs exceptionally well with our experimental spirit and appeals to our audience, who are interested in seeking out the unusual and are first in line for a new experience. This collaboration was even more special as he spent the weekend with us in Inverness and helped raise much needed funds for Maggie’s Highlands. We would be delighted to have him back anytime!

Andrew Benjamin, the Maggie’s centre fundraising manager, “We’re exceptionally thankful to both Chef Tony Singh MBE and Cù Bòcan whisky for their ongoing support and commitment to Maggie’s Highlands in trying to raise funds for us during this time which has been really tough for fundraising. We are also incredibly thankful to both the Highland Food and Drink Trail and Black Isle Brewery for all of their generosity over the weekend. Also a big thank you to everyone who attend and supported the event across the two days. We couldn't have done it without you. In total we raised just over £3400 for the centre! We received such positive feedback from the event and it was a brilliant way to share more about what we do here at Maggies and who knows we might be back with Tony for more events in the future!”
